About the event

The Oil Pastel Workshop introduces students to one of our favorite mediums for blending and layering! Students explore ideas about color wheels and color balance, how to blend colors, and how to create perspective and textures while learning about artists such as Georges Seurat, Mary Cassatt, and Auguste Renoire.

Each session begins with a short, 10-15 minute discussion about artistic concepts and technique, then transitions to about a half hour of hands-on art time where students work on their project of choice while the instructor(s) give individual feedback. Students are welcome to stay after for an additonal 10-15 minute deep dive into the artist of the week. While beginning students are welcome to stay for these "after class" discussions, they are specifically designed to help more advanced students broaden their understanding of art history and hone their technique.

While we expect younger students will probably create a new art piece each week, we encourage older students to consider using the length of the workshop to fully develop a single piece, layering techniques to finish a strong piece that they would be proud to display. These four week workshop is great for all ages, but we recommend that younger students are directly supervised by an adult, just in case! Art can get messy sometimes!

Registration is $250 and includes supplies. Supplies may be picked up for no additional charge, or delivered for an additional $20 charge.

Please note that this is an interest form ONLY!  Submitting this form holds a spot for your student, but does not automatically bill you. An interest form must be submitted for each student, and a staff member will follow up with you afterward. Students are not enrolled in a course until payment or a voucher/PO is recieved. For more information, please refer to the funding section of the Student and Family Handbook.
